The Australian Government’s Fiji Program Support Facility announces the following opportunity:

School-Community Relationship Adviser - Education

  • Based in Suva, Fiji (some travel may be required)
  • Full time, 6 months with an option to extend

The Program

Australia’s Support to Fiji’s Education Sector (the Program) is funded by the Australian Government and is managed by Coffey through the Fiji Program Support Facility. The Program will operate up to 2022 with an option to extend for another three years and focuses on systems strengthening, supporting the Fiji Government’s civil service reforms in education, literacy and numeracy, inclusive education, Fiji Education Management Information System (FEMIS), and teacher preparation and development. The Program will contribute to the strategic priorities of the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts (MEHA) that support quality learning and teaching.

The Position

The School-Community Relationships Adviser will work closely with other technical advisers to design, implement, monitor and report on the Program’s Pillar 3 “School communities contribute to inclusive and supportive school cultures”. The Adviser will provide strategic and technical advice to strengthen relationships between schools and their communities, and will also foster better working relationships between MEHA and school owner organisations. Key responsibilities include:

  • Designing, implementing, and monitoring a work plan for and reporting on the Program’s Pillar 3 in close coordination with other technical advisers in the Program
  • Supporting MEHA and key stakeholders in the development of a MEHA-community engagement strategy
  • Develop training packages to build the capacity of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to work with schools, school owners and MEHA to develop local solutions to issues associated with student participation, disability inclusion, gender equality and respectful school cultures
  • Support CSOs, School Management Committees and school communities to undertake research for solutions to issues that affect them.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in education or community development combined with significant experience working with schools, school communities, parents and CSOs in the education sector. Candidates will need to demonstrate excellent skills in communication, liaison and the ability to negotiate and find creative solutions to problems. Experience in project management, monitoring and evaluation are required. Experience in successfully transitioning programs to partner governments, and training and developing capacity of school, community and government stakeholders are essential. Pacific experience would be an advantage.
