Teacher Training Specialist (KTC)
- Specialist education adviser position to contribute to long term education development in Kiribati
- Short term, periodic inputs (Up to 125 input days in 2016. Up to 150 input days in 2017).

The Program
On behalf of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Coffey is managing the delivery of a package of support and technical assistance (Kiribati Education Facility), to the Kiribati Ministry of Education (MoE) as part of the Kiribati Education Improvement Program (KEIP). We work with participating donors, including DFAT, UNICEF and UNESCO, to support the MoE in implementing a comprehensive reform program focused on ensuring all children in Kiribati have access to quality schooling.
KEIP Phase III (2016-2019) is planned to commence in April 2016 and will focus on the consolidation of the reforms already undertaken in 2010-15. Phase III will extend the curriculum and teaching and learning reforms into the Junior Secondary system.
The Position
The Teacher Training Specialist will assist the Kiribati MoE and Kiribati Teachers College (KTC) to strengthen the in-service and pre-service teacher training program with an increased focus on literacy and numeracy in both; and develop curricular linkages between them for efficiencies and effective preparation of beginning teachers. The Specialist will also work closely with KTC staff and trainers to upgrade its systems, equipment and materials to introduce new ways of delivering teacher training as well as support KTC in its increased role in English language teaching.
The Person
The ideal candidate will have tertiary qualifications in Education and will demonstrate extensive experience developing, implementing and managing teacher education and professional development programs for both pre-service and in-service, ideally where TESOL is used. Knowledge of international developments in school curriculum, assessment and the requirements for certification is required for success as well as experience coaching and mentoring professional colleagues from different social and cultural backgrounds. Previous experience working in the Pacific is highly desirable.
