School Based Leadership and Management Adviser
- Specialist education adviser position to contribute to long term education development in Kiribati
- Short Term, 180 days to June 2018 with option to extend
- Tarawa, Kiribati, with in-country travel required to islands and schools
The Program
On behalf of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Coffey is managing the delivery of support and technical assistance to the Kiribati Ministry of Education (MoE) as part of the Kiribati Education Improvement Program (KEIP) Phase III. We support the MoE in implementing a comprehensive reform program focused on children in Kiribati having access to inclusive, quality basic education. This includes a large infrastructure component that includes new or upgraded classrooms, school facilities, fencing, water and sanitation facilities and rainwater collection.
The Position
The School Based Leadership and Management Adviser will work closely with senior management within the Kiribati Ministry of Education to plan and implement specific initiatives that support school based management and delivery. Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting the delivery of specific initiatives at the school leadership level and improving the school leader professional development program;
- Implementing appropriate capacity building strategies to ensure Island Education Coordinators and school leaders have the skills needed to develop and manage schools, teacher and learning outcomes;
- Assisting the Ministry of Education in strengthening school level planning and decision making, through improved reporting and access to information; and
- Support Island Education Coordinators in their outreach to communities for greater engagement and increased student participation.
The Person
The ideal candidate will be tertiary qualified in a relevant field and will have proven experience in education management, teaching, training and mentoring colleagues, preferably with experience in remote schools and accommodating unique management and operational needs. Experience delivering high level advice about quality teaching and whole school improvement in a development environment is required for success. Experience applying evidence based approaches to decision making and preparing high quality reports is essential. Previous experience working in the Pacific is highly desirable.
