The Program

The Fiji Program Support Facility (the Facility) was established in 2017 to support and implement Australia’s aid programs such as health, education, Australia Awards and governance in Fiji. The Facility also supports the Australia Awards and education programs in Tuvalu. The Facility integrates cross-cutting themes, including gender equality, disability inclusion, climate change, emergency preparedness and response and civil society engagement, across sectoral programs. In particular, the Facility seeks to strengthen program outcomes by better addressing the needs of targeted beneficiaries including those who are often marginalised.

Australia’s Support to Fiji’s Education Sector program works in close partnership with the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts (MEHA) to enable all girls and boys to learn. It focuses on strengthening MEHA HR capacity, literacy and numeracy, inclusive education, Fiji Education Management Information System (FEMIS), and teacher preparation and development.

The Program contributes to the strategic priorities of MEHA that support quality learning and teaching through targeted support including demand driven technical assistance, grants to support analytics and partnerships.

The Position

The Special and Inclusive Education Curriculum Specialist (the Specialist) will substantively contribute to the review of the current curriculum and provide a better understanding of gaps in supporting children with disabilities and impairments through the existing National Curriculum Framework and within the Special, Inclusive and general education setting.

The Specialist will lead the work in Fiji for the review of the curriculum in relation to students with disabilities in coordination with the MEHA and is technically accountable to the Facility’s Disability Inclusion Specialist.

The Person

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of hands-on experience teaching students with moderate/severe disabilities in Fiji as well as experience working amongst a team of allied health support workers and knowledge of a multidisciplinary approach. In addition, the candidate will have experience in conducting qualitive studies and research and also be knowledgeable on the rights of the child, key principles of human rights and Gender Equality, Disability and Social Inclusion (GEDSI).

The candidate will be able to communicate and work effectively with persons of various cultures and disciplines and possess high level negotiation skills to manage conflict, problem identification and resolution.

A Master’s degree in Education with relevant experience in special education OR a bachelor’s degree in Education with at least 8-10 years of experience working with in special education, experience in research and or curriculum development is necessary for this position.

This position is locally engaged and is open to National citizens of Fiji only.
