The Program
The Fiji Program Support Facility (the Facility) was established in 2017 to support and implement Australia’s aid programs such as health, education, Australia Awards and governance in Fiji. The Facility also supports the Australia Awards and education programs in Tuvalu. The Facility integrates cross-cutting themes, including gender equality, disability inclusion, climate change, emergency preparedness and response and civil society engagement, across sectoral programs. In particular, the Facility seeks to strengthen program outcomes by better addressing the needs of targeted beneficiaries including those who are often marginalised.
Australia’s Support to Fiji’s Education Sector program works in close partnership with the Ministry of Education, Heritage and Arts (MEHA) to enable all girls and boys to learn. It focuses on strengthening MEHA HR capacity, literacy and numeracy, inclusive education, Fiji Education Management Information System (FEMIS), and teacher preparation and development.
The Program contributes to the strategic priorities of MEHA that support quality learning and teaching through targeted support including demand driven technical assistance, grants to support analytics and partnerships.
The Position
The Curriculum Specialist - English (Secondary) will support MEHA to achieve optimum learning outcomes for all students in Years 9 – 13 across Fiji through the review, development and implementation of the English curriculum, based on international best practice. The role will work closely with the Literacy and Numeracy team (Primary) to ensure a seamless transition in the scoping and sequencing of the Early Childhood Education (ECE), Primary and Secondary English and Mathematics curricula.
The Person
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in designing curriculum and assessment for the secondary levels of schooling with a specific focus in English. The successful candidate will also have evidence of a substantial theoretical background in current curriculum and assessment theory and practice, of current curriculum and assessment approaches including competency based or outcomes-based approaches for learning and assessment. A relevant post-graduate qualification such as a Master of Education degree specialising in curriculum development (Mathematics) or related area is a requirement for this position.
