The Program

On behalf of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Coffey is managing the delivery of support and technical assistance to the Kiribati Ministry of Education (MoE) as part of the Kiribati Education Improvement Program (KEIP) Phase III. We support the MoE in implementing a comprehensive reform program focused on children in Kiribati having access to inclusive, quality basic education. This includes a large infrastructure component that includes new or upgraded classrooms, school facilities, fencing, water and sanitation facilities and rainwater collection.

The Position

The JSS Curriculum Adviser will assist the MoE to review and redevelop the curriculum format and content through the junior secondary school years. The Adviser will assist the MoE to change and update its curriculum into one more aligned with the Government of Kiribati strategy for improved self-development, employability and labour mobility of JSS graduates. The Adviser will work closely with colleagues in the MoE in the planning and development of materials and teacher guides; training and mentoring teachers and educational managers; and supporting the monitoring and reporting of the JSS reform process.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be tertiary qualified in education or training and will have a deep understanding of secondary curriculum and assessment; combined with experience delivering high level advice to Ministry managers and school leaders on secondary education and its linkages to further study or employment. A deep understanding of gender dynamics and positive gender relationship formation during adolescent years is essential. Previous experience working in the Pacific is desirable, as well as excellent relationship management skills and knowledge of aid effectiveness principles.
