The Program

Australia Awards Papua New Guinea (AAPNG) contributes to building a qualified workforce, filling critical human resource gaps and fostering leadership in the public and private sector of Papua New Guinea (PNG), thereby supporting the country’s economic, social and environmental development.

The Facility’s activities contribute to PNG citizens acquiring professional and technical skills and knowledge relevant to the priorities of the Government of PNG and developing networks in their professional fields and communities in ways that contribute to economic growth, good governance and social objectives including health and education. The program fosters people-to-people links between Australia and PNG and ensures opportunities are provided for women, people with disabilities and people from remote locations.

Australia Awards – PNG includes three study options:

  • Australia Award Scholarships for Papua New Guineans to study primarily postgraduate courses in Australia;
  • Australia Awards Fellowships – Papua New Guinea (short courses) for Papua New Guineans to undertake study in Australia, receiving an Australian qualification; and
  • Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships for Papua New Guineans to study in PNG to meet critical workforce gaps.

To deliver Australia Awards outcomes, there are currently four activity streams: 1) Australia Awards; 2) PNG and Pacific Awards; 3) Alumni Engagement; and 4) Professional Development and Partnerships. Australia Awards – PNG is managed by Coffey, a Tetra Tech company, on behalf of the Australian Government.

The Position

Reporting to the Finance Senior Coordinator the Finance Officer prepares and processes payments, inputs expenditure data to the accounting system, maintains the petty cash float, supports bank account administration, contributes to non-ARF staff payroll, processes GST claims, and assists with procurement and financial reporting, and other tasks as needed.

The Person

This is a Papua New Guinea non-ARF position based in Port Moresby. Remuneration is competitive but does not include a housing allowance.
To ensure success in this role an accounting qualification is highly desirable combined with strong experience in accounting, finance and business administration operations and reporting. Candidates will need to have experience working in a small team, have well-developed financial management skills and excellent interpersonal/communication skills and be proficient in the use of accounting software e,g, Quickbooks.
