The Program

On behalf of the Australian Government’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT), Coffey International Development (Coffey) manages the Laos Australia Institute (LAI). The focus of LAI is human resource development working at the national level and with key government agencies. LAI manages the Australia Awards Scholarships (AAS) in Laos and the Laos Australia National Scholarships (LANS), which supports young men and women from remote and disadvantaged areas to complete a four-year undergraduate degree at a local university. LAI aims to improve participation of women in leadership and management roles, and increase the capacity of people with disability and organisations involved in disability-inclusive development.

The Position

Reserved for Laos Citizens

The LANS Support Officer will assist the Scholarships Team to implement the LANS programs managed by LAI on behalf of the Australian Government. The successful candidate will work as a coordinator between the Scholarships Team and the NuOL/SU teachers and students under the LANS program, some key responsibilities include:

  • Assist the Scholarships Manager and Scholarships Associate with day to day coordination of LANS scholarships and alumni activities with the relevant university
  • Maintain good communication and relationships with key stakeholders of the program including counterparts at the university, DFAT, Government of Laos ministries, agencies and other training providers
  • Assist LANS teachers and staff at the university in managing the Academic Support Program (ASP) and other extra curricular activities
  • Work closely with LANS students to gather information on their academic performance, welfare issues and other conditions and report back to the ASP teachers and the Scholarship Team
  • Support the LANS selection process such as promotion of the awards, receiving applications and coordination of the selection panel
  • Assist student administration at the university in the using and maintaining student information and records, and contribute to other monitoring and evaluation (M&E) activities as required

The Person

We are seeking applicants with a Bachelor Degree preferably in Education, Human Resource Development (HRD), Management or Development Studies and approximately five years’ experience working in a related field. Your strong communication and interpersonal skills will enable you to deal with student matters and have the ability to empathise and understand academic and personal issues. You will have the ability to work independently in a flexible and diverse team. Fluency in Lao and intermediate level written and oral English is essential. The successful candidate will also have strong experience in using Microsoft Office applications.
