Team Leader

  • Key education leadership position supporting development of the basic education sector in Kiribati
  • Full time, 18 month contract with possibility of extension
  • Based in Tarawa, Kiribati with occasional travel to Outer Islands

The Program

On behalf of the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade Coffey is managing the delivery of support and technical assistance to the Kiribati Ministry of Education (MoE) as part of the Kiribati Education Improvement Program (KEIP) Phase III. We support the MoE in implementing a comprehensive reform program focused on children in Kiribati having access to inclusive, quality basic education. This includes a large infrastructure component that includes new or upgraded classrooms, school facilities, fencing, water and sanitation facilities and rainwater collection.

Coffey is currently seeking applications for this key senior management position to lead the Kiribati Education Facility.

The Position

The Team Leader will work closely with senior management in the Ministry of Education and will provide strategic advice, senior management and leadership in implementing and coordinating all aspects of the Kiribati Education Facility. This position will maintain the strategic direction of the program, ensuring close alignment with Kiribati Ministry of Education objectives and will provide direction to a team of technical advisers. The Team Leader will liaise with DFAT in Tarawa and oversee the administration, implementation and monitoring of the program, managing relevant personnel and financial resources and ensuring contracted activities are implemented to a high quality. This key leadership role will also maintain collaborative working relationships amongst a diverse range of stakeholders, as well as supporting donor coordination and alignment of activities and implementation of cross cutting development issues across all program activities.

The Person

The ideal candidate for this key position will have substantial leadership experience in planning, policy and program management of institutional strengthening initiatives in the education sector, preferably with experience working in the Pacific. We seek an outstanding candidate with excellent relationship management and team management skills, demonstrated high level coordination ability across national government agencies and understanding of a complex education environment, preferably in the Pacific.
