The Program
The goal of BEQUAL is to ensure all girls and boys, especially those experiencing disadvantage, complete a quality basic education to achieve literacy, numeracy and other life skills. The program will address education policy, planning and coordination, increased child participation in and access to basic education, teacher education and improved school infrastructure.
Coffey through BEQUAL is currently seeking applications for the position of Teaching and Learning Resources Specialist
The Position
The Teaching and Learning Resources Specialist will have responsibility for managing activities under Key Result Area 4; Teaching and Learning Resources. This will be achieved by supporting the MOES to develop a more efficient and decentralised system for the acquisition and procurement of renewed teaching and learning resources that will be more gender sensitive and inclusive of disadvantaged groups.
The Teaching and Learning Resources Specialist role will be responsible for but not limited to the following:
- Develop the Primary School Curriculum and Materials Renewal Plan in consultation with RIES,, MoES Department of Primary and Pre-Primary Education (DPPE) and the Department of Teacher Education (DTE).
- Provide high level technical advice to MoES (RIES), DFAT and other partners associated the development and drafting the new Lao Primary Curriculum, this include advice with regards to policy and strategic implementation of activities associated with curriculum development.
- Work collaboratively with RIES to develop a primary curriculum framework for grades 1-5.
- Develop relevant teaching and learning resources based on the Primary School Curriculum and Materials Renewal Plan. This will include textbooks, teacher guides, teacher resource packs and additional reading material for primary classrooms.
- Manage and supervise the piloting and trialling of developed materials to ensure they are appropriate to requirements and meet the needs of teachers from ethnic minority communities.
- Utilise a variety of capacity building strategies to build on the capacity of staff in MoES departments and units including coaching, facilitation, mentoring and targeted training as appropriate.
The Person
The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in the basic education sector in a South East Asian developing country context. Demonstrated experience in capacity development approaches including professional development, mentoring, participatory training and facilitation as well as the ability to provide technical advice is required. Demonstrated experience in the development of teaching and learning resource materials and an understanding of international development agreements including the aid effectiveness agenda is required for success. Excellent skills working in diverse and multilingual contexts and in mentoring colleagues is required and previous experience working in Lao PDR or South East Asia is highly desirable.
